SpaceX, a space exploration company led by tycoon Elon Musk, is currently under intense scrutiny due to allegations of violation of United States of America law. These accusations gained prominence after eight critical employees ofMusk were illegally dismissed. The complaint was made by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), an independent agency of the United States government.

Controversial dismissals

According to the complaint filed by the NLRB, the employees were terminated after sending a letter to SpaceX executives, which described Musk as a "distraction and source of embarrassment" for the company. The statement, sent in June 2022, focuses on a series of tweets published by the billionaire since 2020,many of which were sexually suggestive.

The officials claimed that such statements were not aligned with company policies related to diversity and appropriate conduct in the workplace and asked SpaceX to condemn them. The letter also addressed the institution's anti-harassment policies.. These dismissals generated a climate of tension within the company and drew the attention of regulatory bodies and public opinion.

Allegations of Violation of US Law

According toKayla Blado, agency spokesperson North American, the company violated the rights of employees by preventing them from coming together to demand better working conditions. The complaint also mentions that workers were subjected to interrogations, and those involved in drafting the letter were belittled. The company was also accused of threatening to fire other employees who engaged in similar activities.

Impact for SpaceX

SpaceX has the option to pursue a deal; however, if this does not occur, the NLRB complaint will be presented to an administrative law judge. The first hearing is scheduled for March 5, as reported by the agency. The decision resulting from this judgment can be appealed and forwarded to a panel made up of five advisors, members of a standing committee of the NLRB appointed by the president of the United States. If the company is found guilty, it could be compelled to reinstate the eight employees, reimbursing their salaries, and could even be subject to more severe penalties in future cases before the agency.
