SpaceX performs impressive test flight of Starship, the largest ship in the world, but journey is not completed
The mission, which lasted approximately one hour, was the longest carried out so far by Elon Musk's company. However, unfortunately, the capsule ended up destroying itself while approaching return to Earth. The company aims to use Starship to transport people and cargo to the Moon and Mars in the future.

SpaceX, a space exploration company founded by tycoon Elon Musk, launched another historic milestone in the space race with the Starship test, his ambitious interplanetary ship. However, the third test flight carried out this Thursday (14), despite being impressive in its conception and initial execution, failed to achieve all planned objectives.
Starship is considered by the manufacturer as the most successful experiment to date, representing the largest ship in the world. Again, on the test flight, there was no crew present.

The mission has reached a significant milestone, approaching the spacecraft's landing phase, thus becoming the most successful to date. According to SpaceX, Starship was on course to re-enter Earth orbit 50 minutes after launch, when the company lost communication with it. Daniel Huot, SpaceX communications manager, confirmed a few minutes later that Starship was destroyed. "The team reported the loss of the spacecraft, so there will be no landing today. However, it is remarkable to see the progress made this time."
Starship had never ventured this far, and its rocket booster, known as Super Heavy, had never completed its trajectory in the two previous tests, both carried out in 2023. On this occasion, the Super Heavy detached from the spacecraft three minutes after takeoff. However, according to the New York Times, the first stage of the space vehicle was unable to make a completely successful landing in the Gulf of Mexico, as predicted.
In the first test, both the propellant and the ship were deliberately detonated by SpaceX itself, in a technical decision taken shortly after takeoff. In the second test, the rocket exploded shortly after separating from Starship, which was also destroyed shortly after reaching Earth orbit.
Launch
At around 10:25 am, the launch took place at the SpaceX air base in Boca Chica, Texas (USA). The event faced a brief delay due to the need to remove some vessels parked in the Gulf of Mexico, where the Super Heavy rocket, responsible for boosting Starship, was scheduled to land. Additionally, concerns about cloudy weather and windy conditions were considerable in advance by the SpaceX team.

Your previous releases were marked by separate incidents. In the first attempt, in April 2023, a failure led to the engines shutting down, resulting in the activation of a destruction system to detonate the propellant still attached to the capsule. In the second test, in November 2023, the booster exploded after separating from Starship, and SpaceX lost contact with the capsule, the upper section of the ship. In February, the company identified the need for 17 corrective actions after discovering a fault in a filter that powered the engines.
SpaceX has implemented changes to the hardware of the upcoming Starship vehicles, aiming to improve leak sealing, increase fire protection and refine operations related to propellant ventilation, all with the aim of increasing reliability, as stated by the manufacturer.

What is the Starship ship like?
The Starship spacecraft, together with the Super Heavy thruster, reaches an impressive height of 120 meters and has a diameter of 9 meters. With the capacity to transport up to 100 people, this spacecraft is designed with the same premise of reuse that characterizes other SpaceX creations. If intended to be discarded after a mission, it can support payloads of up to 250 tons, while its capacity is reduced to 150 tons when reused.
The Starship testing process began in 2019, although the first successful landing was only achieved in 2021. This significant advancement sets the stage for its use on NASA's Artemis 3 mission, planned to return astronauts to the lunar surface in 2025. .
Starship's first three manned missions will be aimed at space tourists, with two of them including a lunar orbit. Looking to the future, SpaceX sees the potential of this spacecraft not only for lunar missions, but also for transporting people and cargo to Mars.
