The confrontation between Brazil and Uruguay was held at Centenario Stadium, located in the capital, Montevideo, on Tuesday night (17), for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Known for being a historically difficult opponent, Uruguay demonstrated superior performance on the field and defeated Brazil 2-0. This victory for the Uruguayan team ended the eight-year unbeaten run that the Brazilian team maintained in the World Cup qualifiers. The Uruguayan team ended a 22-year streak without beating the green-yellow team.
How was the game
The first half was marked by strong pressing from both teams, many exchanges of passes, although the ball rarely came close to the goal areas. Only in the 41st minute of the initial stage, the first and only attempt at finishing occurred, which ended up being enough for the Uruguayans to open the score. Darwin Núñez successfully headed a cross from Maxi Araújo. The Brazilian team's situation became even more complicated three minutes later, when Neymar suffered an injury.

Neymar, who left the field crying at the end of the first half after suffering a sprained left knee,raising concerns about the possible severity of the injury. The attacking midfielder will undergo medical examinations this Wednesday (18), in order to assess the extent of the injury to his left knee and check whether there is any involvement of the ligaments. The number 10 left the Centenário Stadium, with his left leg immobilized and assisted by crutches.

Consequences on Classification
