Second student dies in shooting attack at Paraná high school
After the attack, the young man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he couldn't survive and passed away during the early hours of this Tuesday (20).

He died in the early hours of this Tuesday (20), around 3:15 am, at the University Hospital of Londrina, student Luan Augusto, 16 years old. He was the second victim of gunshots at Helena Kolody State College in Cambé. Luan's family confirmed the teenager's death.
Yesterday, Karoline Verri Alves, 17 years old, unfortunately was unable to survive his injuries and died on the spot, according to the Mobile Assistance Service (Samu). Both were shot in the head.. According to reports from the victims' families, they were classmates and had been in a romantic relationship for approximately a year. Luan's family decided to authorize the donation of the young man's organs.
Murderer
According to the police, a 21 year old former student entered the state school Professor Helena Kolody with the justification of requesting her academic record, entered the school carrying a firearm and started a sequence of shots inside the school premises. The shots, totaling sixteen shots, occurred at approximately 9:30 am on Monday (19).
According to Secretary of Public Security of Paraná, Hudson Teixeira, the shooter did not know the victims. Still, according to the secretary, the individual shot in the school corridor and then went to the area where the victims were participating in a Physical Education class.
Joel de Oliveira, 62 years old, a service provider at a clinic neighboring the institution, was able to contain the former student. During an interview given to Rede Globo, he reported hearing the sounds of gunshots as soon as he arrived at the physiotherapy clinic where he works, close to the school. Without hesitating about the imminent danger, he promptly went to the school, identified himself as a police officer to the shooter and managed to immobilize him using his foot, waiting for the police vehicles to arrive.
Investigations
After immobilizing the aggressor, he was immediately arrested and taken to the police station. During the approach, the police seizeda backpack containing an ax, but the aggressor did not actually use the artifact. The agents in charge of the occurrence collected the recordings from the surveillance cameras installed at the educational institution. Police are investigating the suspect for murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

The Secretary of Public Security of Paraná (Sesp), reported that in addition to the gun, a notebook containing notes on attacks on schools, including the tragic incident in Suzano, São Paulo, was seized. Sesp also disclosed that, upon contacting the perpetrator's family, it was informed that he suffers from schizophrenia and is undergoing treatment for this condition.
Teixeira also said that a 13-year-old teenager was arrested for helping to plan the attack.
Other victims
The Professora Helena Kolody State College has about 40 classes and 634 students, according to the Paraná Education Department. The school serves elementary and high school classes. A young survivor of the school shootings reported that she and a group of students were threatened by the gunman as they took shelter inside the staff lounge.
"He said: if you don't open this door, everyone will die here. And we were locked in the teachers' room. We tried to run out, but then he pointed the gun at me and five other friends of mine and shot. Only we managed to get out," said a student in an interview with RPC, an affiliate of broadcaster Globo.
Another student reports that she was in the cafeteria with her friends when she heard the sound of shots.
"At the time we were sitting in the cafeteria, me and some friends. At the time we heard three shots, like a firecracker. When we turned around, there was a boy in the crack of the gate. Then we said, let's not make any noise and run. we saw, he had already passed, on the other side. I could only see the sparks from the revolver come out", reported the student.
