Recovery: Mingau, bassist of Ultraje a Rigor, is discharged after 4 months hospitalized for a gunshot wound in Paraty
The bassist was the victim of an attack late in the evening of September 2, 2023. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head, requiring emergency intracranial surgical interventions. According to the doctors in charge of the case, the bullet penetrated the left side of the artist's brain, passing through the skull.

The bassist of iconic band Ultraje a Rigor,Rinaldo Oliveira Amaral, known asPorridge, was medically discharged after four months of hospitalization due to a gunshot wound that occurred in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. The artist, who was recovering from serious injuries in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital São Luiz - Itaim Unit, in São Paulo, was discharged from hospital this Monday (08).
He left the unit without sedation, breathing independently and showing a significant improvement in his neurological condition, as indicated by the medical report. Now, he will begin a motor and functional rehabilitation process.
"During the period of hospitalization in the unit, where he was admitted on 9/3/2023, the patient received all necessary multidisciplinary assistance and underwent three surgical procedures. After treatment for an infectious condition in the last few days, the medical team assessed that there were conditions for discharge with greater safety."
He will receive treatment at a clinic selected by the family. In a statement, family members expressed gratitude for the support and affection received. "He is now beginning a new phase of rehabilitation. As the results become apparent, we will keep friends and fans informed."
The attack in Paraty
Late in the evening of September 2, 2023, Mingau was with a friend in a car near Praça do Ovo, when were the target of shots fired by armed criminals. In his statement to the Civil Police, the friend, who was in the vehicle, reported that both had withdrawn money from the bank and were on their way to have a snack when they were attacked.
Mingau, a well-known musician in the region who also owns an inn, was hit during the first shots. The passenger in the car mentioned that he ducked to protect himself from the shots, but realized that Porridge fell and lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with the gate of a residence. At the time, the police chief declared that the region where the bassist was shot was under the control of drug trafficking.
Four of the five suspects involved in the attempted murder were detained by the police. The last individual captured was a 29-year-old young man, found in a rural area of Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo.
Hospitalization and Recovery
Mingau was promptly rescued and taken to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, where he was subjected to emergency surgeries to treat gunshot wounds. That day, he underwent emergency intracranial surgery. The doctors, in a press conference, explained that the bullet pierced the left side of the artist's brain, passing through the skull. A second intervention, carried out on September 11, aimed to relieve pressure in the skull, and a tracheostomy (frontal opening of the trachea with insertion of a cannula) was also performed. From September 9th, the intensive care team gradually reduced the sedative drugs.
In December, the family celebrated small movements with their hands, expressions and even attempts to get out of bed. The musician's daughter, Isabella Aglio, recorded her father giving her kisses. "I can't believe it," she asks for another kiss, and he grants it. "I love you, I love you. I'm going to cry," he says, starting to cry, explaining, "I'm crying with happiness." Isabella also shared the moment her father moved one of his fingers in response to the family's encouragement, making a "thumbs up" sign. It was the first time she showed an image of her father's face after the incident.
The next surgery is planned to attach a prosthesis to the area of the skull hit by the bullet. To help with recovery expenses, close friends started a chain of solidarity, creating a "fundraiser" on social media with the hashtag #juntospelomingau.
