Petrobras announces new reduction in gasoline prices for distributors
The price of a liter of gasoline suffered a reduction of 4.3%, falling from R$ 2.78 to R$ 2.66. This drop represents the lowest value for distributors since June 2021.

Petrobras announced this Thursday (15) a further reduction in the price of gasoline for distributors. The cost of fuel will be reduced by 4.3% or BRL 0.12 per liter, going from BRL 2.78 to BRL 2.66 per liter. The measure is valid from this Friday (16). There were no changes in the prices of other fuels. Petrobras announced its latest reduction in gasoline, diesel and cooking gas prices on May 16. With these new values, gasoline reached its lowest price since June 2021.

Since Petrobras' announcement about the end of import parity policy (PPI), which dictated fuel prices since 2016, this is the second time there has been a change in gasoline prices. Previously, prices were established based on fluctuations in the price of a barrel of oil in the global market and in the dollar exchange rate, in accordance with PPI guidelines. Now, the company declares that it will consider the customer's alternative cost as a value to be prioritized in pricing, along with the "marginal value for Petrobras".
"The readjustments will continue to be made without defined periodicity, avoiding the transfer to the internal prices of the conjunctural volatility of the international quotations and of the exchange rate", informed the note of the state-owned company.
Consumer
Petrobras will contribute an average of R$ 1.94 per liter sold at the pump, in terms of consumer price. The state-owned company stated, through a statement, that this reduction aims to guarantee the "maintenance of price competitiveness". The final value for the consumer can reach up to R$ 5.33 per liter. It is important to point out that the price effectively charged at gas stations is influenced by other factors, such as taxes, addition of biofuels and profit margins from both distribution and resale.

Starting tomorrow (6/16), Petrobras will reduce its average gasoline price by R$ 0.13 per liter, which will now be R$ 2.66 per liter.
Considering the mandatory blend of 73% A gasoline and 27% anhydrous ethanol for the composition of gasoline sold at service stations, Petrobras' share in the consumer price will be, on average, R$ 1.94 for each liter sold at the pump. Keeping the installments referring to the other agents according to the ANP price survey for the period from 06/4 to 06/10, the average price to the final consumer could reach R$ 5.33 per liter.
It should be noted that the amount effectively charged to the final consumer at the service station is also affected by other factors such as taxes, blend of biofuels and profit margins from distribution and resale.
The main objectives of Petrobras' price reduction are to maintain the company's price competitiveness vis-à-vis its customers' main supply alternatives and the necessary market share for optimizing refining assets in balance with the national and international markets.
Aware of the importance of its products to Brazilian society, the company emphasizes that when setting its prices it seeks to avoid passing on the volatility of the international market and the exchange rate, while preserving a healthy competitive environment under the terms of current legislation.
