As the deadline for submitting the declaration of the Individual Income Tax 2023 (IRPF 2023), the Federal Revenue warns that more than 500 thousand taxpayers have not yet fulfilled the obligation. The submission deadline is until 23:59 this Wednesday (31) and those who do not send it, who do so with incorrect or omitted information, are subject to a fine. According to the Tax Authorities, it is estimated that between 38.5 million and 39.5 million documents will be received. As of 9:13 am today, as reported by the tax authorities, 37.96 million individuals had already submitted their income tax returns.


The IRPF


The income tax return is required for the following cases: people who obtained taxable income higher than BRL 28,559.70 in the previous year; individuals who obtained exempt income, not taxable or taxable at source with values ​​above R$ 40 thousand; those with equity above R$ 300 thousand; persons who carried out the sale of goods or rights with gains; individuals who had gross income above R$ 142,798.50 in rural activities during the year 2022; in addition to people who became residents in Brazil in any month and remained in that condition until December 31, 2022.


It is also necessary to inform those who obtained, in any month of 2022, profits from the sale of assets or rights subject to participation, or carried out operations on stock exchanges, goods, futures and similar, whose total exceeded BRL 40,000.00 (forty thousand reais). In addition, persons who have ascertained net earnings subject to subsidiaries and those who have been exempt from tax on the profit obtained from the sale of residential property, followed by the acquisition of another residential property within a period of 180 days.

The IRS recalls that failure to send the declaration or sending it with incomplete or incorrect information may result in a fine, in addition to other implications with the Revenue. Therefore, it is important for the taxpayer to verify all information carefully before submitting the return.

Finally, the Federal Revenue recalls that the taxpayers who do not send the declaration within the deadline are subject to a fine of at least R$ 165.74, which may reach 20% of the total amount of tax due. In addition, they are unable to issue a negative debt certificate and may suffer other sanctions provided for in the legislation, such as blocking the CPF. Therefore, it is important that all taxpayers check whether they need to submit the statement and do so within the deadline.
