CBF and Fluminense sign agreement; Diniz takes over as interim coach of the Brazilian national team
In the negotiation, it was agreed that Fernando Diniz will reconcile his work with Fluminense and will be available on FIFA dates to take charge of the Selection.

According to information disclosed by the ge website, sources linked to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), revealed that Fernando Diniz will assume the position of Brazilian national team coach. However, he will not abandon Fluminense. The deal was made for Diniz to act as interim coach while the entity awaits the possible signing of Carlo Ancelotti to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup. The duration of the contract will be six months or a year, depending on Ancelotti's willingness to leave Real Madrid.
Negotiations
It was agreed in the negotiations that Fernando Diniz would reconcile his work with Fluminense and also appear on FIFA dates to take charge of the national team. The CBF contacted the club to discuss the release, and the response was that this would only be possible upon payment of a fine. After the process, the parties reached a consensus. Thanks to this agreement, Fluminense will not be harmed at crucial moments of the season, such as in the knockout stages of the Libertadores.
Brazilian Team
The permanence of Fernando Diniz in the technical commission of the Selection after the arrival of the Italian coach has not yet been defined. The new coach will have their first qualifying engagement in September, during the FIFA date from 4 to 12 September. During this period, Brazil will face Bolivia at home, in a place to be determined, and will visit Peru, in Lima.
The internal coach will have four more games in 2023, all valid for the qualifiers. The matches will be against Venezuela at home and Uruguay away, in October, and against Argentina at home and Colombia away, in November. If Ancelotti does not leave Real Madrid by January, Diniz will take charge of the national team during the FIFA date of March 2024, when two friendlies will be played. One of those friendlies is already scheduled against Spain in Madrid. However, the discussion arises about who will be responsible for summoning and leading the Brazilian team in the commitments scheduled for June of the same year.
Carlo Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid expires on the 30th of the same month, although the European season ends with the Champions League final on the 1st.In the calendar of expectations, a window of FIFA games is foreseen from the 3rd to the 11th of June, followed by the Copa América in the United States, with the opening scheduled for the 20th. In addition, another point to be considered in the calendar of 2024 is the January pre-Olympics, which has a strong possibility of taking place in Venezuela and will grant two spots for the Paris-2024 Games.
Interim coach
Ramon Menezes, who served as the in-house coach in the first three games for the national team this year, losing to Morocco and Senegal and beating Guinea, will remain in charge of the under-20 team. However, there is no defined calendar for the category in the second half of this year. With the officialization of the internal coach, the CBF is now committed to implementing and documenting all the trust placed in the agreement with Carlo Ancelotti. Despite the optimism, there are still crucial issues to be maintained, from the basic courses to the technical commission, including logistics and the place where the Italian will reside.
