Annular solar eclipse lights up the skies of Brazil this Saturday; See the schedules in each state
The event will be partially visible in most regions of the country. Only some areas in the North and Northeast regions will have the opportunity to observe the astronomical phenomenon in its entirety.

Brazil will have the privilege of observing a rare celestial phenomenon known as an annular solar eclipse. Annularity, which is the formation of a "ring of fire" around the moon, will be observable in ten countries: United States, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Brazil. In other regions of the Americas, from Alaska to Argentina, it will be possible to witness a partial eclipse.
The astronomical event can be seen in all regions of the country, with emphasis on the North and Northeast regions where it will be possible to appreciate the eclipse in its entirety. This rare phenomenon occurs when the moon is positioned between the earth and the sun, with its apparent diameter smaller than that of the sun. As a result, a kind of "fire ring" is formed in the sky, as the moon's shadow does not completely cover the sun.
According to experts, this occurs every two years somewhere on the planet, but it is not visible everywhere on the planet. In Brazil, the last time an annular solar eclipse could be observed was in 1994. The National Observatory, linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, estimates that the eclipse will begin at around 3 pm. In collaboration with foreign institutions, the observatory will broadcast the event live on YouTube from 11:30 am, allowing people from all over the world to follow it. The next eclipse of this type will occur on October 2, 2024.

In other regions of the country, the event will be partial, that is, those who look up to the sky will witness the moon partially covering the solar disk.
Why can't you look directly?
It is not advisable to look directly at the sun, even when using devices such as x-ray film, sunglasses, x-ray plates, photographic film, cell phones or other household materials. This is because exposure to the sun, even if it's just for a few seconds, can cause damage to the retina. To observe a solar eclipse safely, you need to use glasses specially designed for viewing that specific one or a protective solar filter. Another safe option is to observe the sun's reflection.
